Help, I need advice! My in-laws are moochers!!?

Question by etsu: Help, I need advice! My in-laws are moochers!!?
I’ve been married to my husband for three years and is three months pregnant with our first child. We’re living comfortably and is trying to save money for our baby.

My father in-law lives off food stamp/ welfare, my mother in-law recently quit her part time job.. both are psychically capable and healthy but are extremely lazy! They recently took domestic trips and went on cruises, and is now planing a three-week trip to China. They’re also hoarders and are obsessed with spending money at thrift stores! (They visit Good Will store Mon-Sun and will spend up to $ 50 everyday!)

My husband has been paying for their cell phone bills for years (mother in-law is trying to get my husband to buy her an iPhone) and are now handing him bills from their car insurance to life insurance! I don’t mind my husband helping them out here and there, but they are spending thousands of dollars on trips and etc.. and is expecting my husband to pay nearly $ 500/ a month in bills for them?? I’ve talk about this to my husband but every time he refuse to help them, they will make him feel bad for not helping out or make it into something personal.

I don’t know what more I can do or say, but I feel like it is getting out of control! How can I make my husband see that his parents are simple taking advantage of him??

Answer by TiredBrainCells
Your husband is an enabler. He has no spine. I think you need to get him into counseling.

You two are married. It isn’t just his money. It is your money as well. You need to say it is time to stop. His parents are NOT NEEDY. There is no reason for a child to be supporting parents who are capable of working. Eventually, you will have to drop the bombshell – it’s either your parents or you and your child.

In addition, you might consider reporting them for welfare fraud.

Q&A: While public eyes focus on Afghanistan, Iran and North Korea is a naval war brewing?

Question by Jack P: While public eyes focus on Afghanistan, Iran and North Korea is a naval war brewing?
ABOARD THE USS GEORGE WASHINGTON – Cold War enemies the United States and Vietnam demonstrated their blossoming military relations Sunday as a U.S. nuclear supercarrier cruised in waters off the Southeast Asian nation’s coast — sending a message that China is not the region’s only big player.

The visit comes 35 years after the Vietnam War as Washington and Hanoi are cozying up in a number of areas, from negotiating a controversial deal to share civilian nuclear fuel and technology to agreeing that China needs to work with its neighbors to resolve territorial claims in the South China Sea.

China claims the entire sea and the disputed Spratly and Paracel islands over which it exercises complete sovereignty. But Vietnam, Taiwan, Malaysia, Brunei and the Philippines also have staked claims on all or some of the territory, which straddles vital shipping lanes, important fishing grounds and is believed rich in oil and natural gas reserves.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100808/ap_on_re_as/as_vietnam_us_military_mates

There are huge oil reserves under the Spratly and Paracel islands and the basis for the Chinese claim [over the claims of Vietnam and the others] is military prowess and projected naval power. The claims of the others haven’t been resolves, so much as placed in abeyance out of helplessness.

Meanwhile, China owns a healthy piece of the US national debt which, if repudiated by the US because of war, might be more than enough to offset the cost of doing business [as well as throwing China into a state of economic chaos].

The Chinese claim to the South China Sea has been a thorn in the side to the entire region for a long while, and it’s become thornier as China gained economic and concurrent military strength. Nobody’s said much about it in any language, but maybe non-verbal communication says a lot?

Is the new best friend the US seems to be finding in Vietnam a whisper of possible resolution to all manner of problems keeping the US president awake nights?
Repenting Israel: The question refers to The South China Sea. The South China Sea is a long way from Russia, India, Pakistan, Iran and Israel.

As it says in the Bible, “There’s more to heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy” [paraphrased].

Thanks for the unrelated opinion, however.
John Trottier: Thanks for the unrelated opinion. Evidently CE doesn’t include any answerers who are able to read maps and locate the South China Sea and the proximity to the places you refer to other than China.

Thanks anyway.

Answer by Repenting Israeli
China, India, Russia do not want US military aggressions in their neighborhoods! North Korea and Iran are two more competent assistants of these three powers beside strange Pakistani nuclear machines!

In short USA and it’s master Israel are trapped! Their militaristic jingoism is bringing trouble for them.

Is this a product by the War Room of Pentagon to Instill fear ?

Question by rate p: Is this a product by the War Room of Pentagon to Instill fear ?
Pentagon launches its China-threat campaign again, It has done that just about every year for past 10 years..

The problem is that the world, in that ten-year span, did not see a single China’ fleet (they even could not build a aircraft-carrier) cruising at the doorstep of other sovereign nations. Neither have we seen China warships stationed or sailed on a permanent basis, along the important sea channels connecting the oceans.

On the contrast, it is none other than the US, who has done exactly that! From land to air, from sea to space, the dominance and omnipotence are unmistakably of the US

Give me a break! In 1991 I wrote to the two Senators from my State to ask them for help in checking out the reality of the CSS-5,”Dragon 2000″ intermediate range missile which the Chinese were deploying at eight different launch sites to “blanket” all of East and South Asia under a nuclear umbrella. The State Department in that administration didn’t even acknowledge the existence of such a weapons system and outright lied to one of my Senators in their reply. Fortunately, the Defense Intelligence Agency told my other Senator the truth and confirmed what I had heard discussed on several English language short wave radio broadcasts of different nations in Asia and the Pacific.
I also recognize that China’s military history since August of 1949 does not show a pattern of their extending outside of their borders with any sort of aggression. But, that does not forgo the possibility of them acting differently in the future.
The Pentagon has to deal, on a daily basis, with the scenario of “worst case first”. I’m sure the leadership of the PLA does the same and that the civilian leadership of both nations would view with disdain if their senior military staffs didn’t carry out such tasks.
If there is one guiding principle behind this activity in the U.S. military command it flows from something once said by Dean Rusk when he served as Secretary of State under Presidents Kennedy and Johnson: “Never forget. While we are asleep, one half the world is up to some kind of mischief”.

What is the best singles vacation options for a professional male in his mid 30s?

Question by Parallox: What is the best singles vacation options for a professional male in his mid 30s?
I have a LOT of vacation from work I need to burn up between now and November. The thing is I am single, and really don’t have any friends I can go traveling with. So I am looking for some travel ideas for a male in his mid 30s. I would like to go someplace a bit more upscale. I did Jamaica a few years back, and didn’t enjoy it. I have also been to Vegas, and really didn’t like it, being I live near Atlantic City, and am not into drinking and dancing. I like the beach, but don’t want to get burned to a crisp. I am not sure I want to do a tour, hopping from city to city, unless there are a lot of cute girls involved. As far as general locations, I was thinking of Europe (on the Mediterranean), the Caribbean, Hawaii, Thailand, maybe even China. I have also looked a cruises, but with hurricane season, I am not sure if that is a good idea. So if there are any locations I missed, or if there are specific recommendations on the places I listed, or vacation companies I should consider, let me know (and don’t say Kontiki, my cousin went on a tour of Alaska and it was a sausage party).

Debbie, that was a lot of great feedback. I am working with a couple travel agents, and am waiting to hear back form them, and what options they have. I was thinking of a European tour, but also want to swim at some nice beaches, so we’ll see what happends. Too bad the hurricane season is upon us.

So… is your 29 year old friend cute 😉

Best answer:

Answer by Debbie B
Hawaii is NOT a good singles place…it’s all people who are either with their family or on their honeymoon (my friend who is a single 29 year old woman is currently there on vacation – having a great time, but said NO single people there). Same holds true for the Caribbean.

I think your best bet is a cruise…they even have singles cruises (my coworker went on one and had an amazing time). I haven’t ever been on a cruise, but I know they have tons of activities/great food/entertainment. It’s a really nice place to meet people.

Europe could be fun, and I guess you could meet some fun foreign women…but still not a great option for a “singles outing.”

My ex went to Australia after we broke up and had an incredible time. He did it through a touring group. If you have a lot of time to spare, that is a great place to visit!!! If I had a lot of vacation time that’s where I would go. Sadly, I only get 3 weeks vacation/personal/sick a year….15 days for an entire year…sigh 🙁

Disney Riddles YAY!?

Question by robert.sanchez34: Disney Riddles YAY!?
There was a man in the MGM Studios. He was handed a phone by a Disney employee without asking his name or knowing his identity. After talking on the phone for a little over 30 seconds, he knew he was going on a cruise for free. So, he waited outside a building for someone. What happened?

A convicted murderer was traveling in Epcot, killing one person in every world showcase pavilion. He first kills someone in the Canada pavilion. After that, he goes to the closest dock and travels across the world showcase lagoon to the China pavilion. There, he kills another person. By the time the murderer is done killing the 2nd victim, the dead person in the Canada pavilion is found and the cops and a detective are called. The murderer then goes to the closest dock and travels to the France pavilion to kill someone else. By the time he kills the next victim, the detective figures out where he is going to murder someone next. Where? What is the pattern?
Don’t worry, I will show every one the answers. DISNEY ROCKS!

Wow, really good riddles. I don’t know either of them.

EDIT:

After re-reading the riddles, I feel that the answers might be a bit obvious…

1. The man talked to someone on the phone who said he was going on a cruise for free and told him to wait outside.

2. The man was going to the closest dock next to him. He always goes to the closest dock next to him.

from Thailand to Australia by sea?

Question by ⊥ Bag: from Thailand to Australia by sea?
has anybody ever done it before, actually i am going to Thailand in a couple of weeks and i was just thinking about taking a cruise and i want to stay on a boat as long as i can and the longest route i can afford is from thailand to Australia, my main concern is that i hold a China passport and i don’t have a VISA to go to Australia, but i don’t care if i can get off the ship, i just want to be floating on the sea for a couple days, so will they let me on their ship if don’t have a VISA to Australia, how exactly can i make this happen
Thank you !

Best answer:

Answer by Halo
No you will not be allowed to board any vessel without a valid visa. If you board a ship in Thailand you must show a return ticket from your destination (Australia). At the end of any cruise you must leave the ship for it to be cleaned etc, even people who have back to back cruises (getting back on the same ship) have to depart at each final port. You will be denied boarding in Thailand without the correct visa’s.

are americans stupid?

Question by Lol: are americans stupid?
ok so i have never believed in stereotypes i usually hate them, and i didn’t believe in the “dumb blonds” or “stupid americans” one, but i went on a cruise this summer and i met a lot of americans, there were 3 blonds that were very friendly and when they asked where i came from i said Chile, one responded with”omg! CHINA” you could think it was a misunderstanding (so did i but im a black 16 year old girl who speaks Spanish soo not Chinese at all”, then i repeated “no CHILE” to which they responded “emm.. whats that” i couldn’t believe it, i had never met anyone so dumb

then i met other kids who weren’t so bright but were sort of ok i guess, until THEY started talking about how dumb americans were…
i found it weird, but i had fun though, so i ask, there is no way ALL americans are dumb, assuming that would be STUPID of me, but really, i have been in europe and a lot of places in latin america, and i never met people like this (not that they were ad or anything), but are lot of americans like this?
excuse my english, its not my first language
with “ad” i meant “bad”
and those kids i was talking about were americans
guys theres not need for the insults, im not CALLING americans STUPID, im asking you about what you think and telling you my experiences with SOME americans, i clearly stated that i didnt think all of them were dumb
just because chile is a 3rd world country, it doesnt mean the education is bad, almost 90% of our schools are private education, and i know how to speak english and spañish almost perfectly and some french, so i think its very ignorant to say things like “I doubt 3rd world chileans are any more intelligent” or “we make more money and have a higher quality of life than you do” since life here is pretty good, you are the misinformed one dude, and considering america is in a financial crisis i wouldnt say your economy is better (chile´s economy is more stable than america) and there are more people in the US so obiously the rate of succes is higher

I Wont Lose My Job With Asking So Much Will I?

Question by Codreezy: I Wont Lose My Job With Asking So Much Will I?
Im Planning on Taking a Cruise to The Bahamas from The Port of Baltimore
7 Days in September 30-October 7, 2012

I Was Considering Taking a 9 Day Trip to China to Tour The Country
(2 Days of Traveling, 7 Days There) From October 14-October 22, 2012

Then I am Still in The Process of Enlisting in The National Guard Which I Will Have to Request Time Of From My Job to Do That, Probably Wouldn’t Ship out Until 2013

But Would That Be To Much to Tell My Job That I Need Nearly 3 and a Half Weeks Off for My Traveling in The End of September – Near the End of October ?
Then Informing Them (if Successful) in Enlistment in The Military Reserves That I’ll Need time off for Training ?

Best answer:

Answer by richardw
They can’t drop you for the national guard stuff, but, they don’t have to let you go take a cruise. Honestly, if I were and employer and knew all the time you were planning to take off, I might be temped to find a way to get rid of you/make you quit… depending on what the job is. If making room in the schedule and workplans is seriously affected by your time off, be ready for a less than friendly work environment.

If it’s something like working at a restaurant, no biggie, you can always find another one. If it’s something you went to school for, you might wait for a natural break in employment before you take off for a couple weeks.
