Help, I need advice! My in-laws are moochers!!?

Question by etsu: Help, I need advice! My in-laws are moochers!!?
I’ve been married to my husband for three years and is three months pregnant with our first child. We’re living comfortably and is trying to save money for our baby.

My father in-law lives off food stamp/ welfare, my mother in-law recently quit her part time job.. both are psychically capable and healthy but are extremely lazy! They recently took domestic trips and went on cruises, and is now planing a three-week trip to China. They’re also hoarders and are obsessed with spending money at thrift stores! (They visit Good Will store Mon-Sun and will spend up to $ 50 everyday!)

My husband has been paying for their cell phone bills for years (mother in-law is trying to get my husband to buy her an iPhone) and are now handing him bills from their car insurance to life insurance! I don’t mind my husband helping them out here and there, but they are spending thousands of dollars on trips and etc.. and is expecting my husband to pay nearly $ 500/ a month in bills for them?? I’ve talk about this to my husband but every time he refuse to help them, they will make him feel bad for not helping out or make it into something personal.

I don’t know what more I can do or say, but I feel like it is getting out of control! How can I make my husband see that his parents are simple taking advantage of him??

Best answer:

Answer by TiredBrainCells
Your husband is an enabler. He has no spine. I think you need to get him into counseling.

You two are married. It isn’t just his money. It is your money as well. You need to say it is time to stop. His parents are NOT NEEDY. There is no reason for a child to be supporting parents who are capable of working. Eventually, you will have to drop the bombshell – it’s either your parents or you and your child.

In addition, you might consider reporting them for welfare fraud.

I need help planning a trip to China?

Question by jamescroc: I need help planning a trip to China?
Hello,

I am trying to plan a trip to China. I am currently a US citizen living in Georgia. I plan on going alone to China and basically want to backpack to several places including Beijing, the Yangtze river, and Shanghai. I am having trouble finding out how to obtain a visa since there is no Chinese embassy near me and I would also like to know how difficult it is to get a hotel room. I would rather not book them in advance so that I’m not stuck to a strict time schedule. Should them book in advance or can I play it by ear when I arrive? Any advice is appreciated.
I am planning on staying through late May/early April.

Best answer:

Answer by rolly
Late May or early April is a great time to visit China, by travelling in spring you avoid the bitterly cold winter and super humid summer. Getting a hotel shouldn’t be tricky during that time, and I don’t think booking ahead will be overly necessary. Just avoid May 1st to May 7th, the week long May Day national holiday is super hectic, and finding any hotel rooms will be tricky country wide.
In Australia (I’m not sure about the USA), as long as you have a return ticket booked, most travel agents can obtain a 1 month tourist visa without any difficulty. I loved back-packing around China! Go for it mate! You’ll have a ball!

How do we as the U.S.A balance the need for energy with the conflict of securing energy security?

Question by trevathantim: How do we as the U.S.A balance the need for energy with the conflict of securing energy security?
In recent years, new threats to energy security have emerged in the form of the increased world competition for energy resources due to the increased pace of industrialization in countries such as India and China. Although still a minority concern, the possibility of price rises resulting from the peaking of world oil production is also starting to attract the attention of at least the French government.[1]

Energy security, or security of supply, is a key component of energy policy in many countries. Since all economic activity requires the use of energy resources, the continuing availability of energy at a price that protects economic growth is a major concern of governments
Strategically, China’s communist leaders are using a Leninist approach in an attempt to influence “those who oppose and those who support China’s interest’s abroad.”

“Once China’s leaders make the distinction between friend and foe, they can develop and tailor [propaganda] themes to counter opposition and advance their overall agenda,” the report said. “Moreover, such distinctions position China to reward ‘friends’ abroad, or alternatively, punish ‘enemies’ to enhance its own position in the balance of power.”
China continues to build up its military in utmost secrecy. Its military spending is estimated to be many times greater than the official estimate of $ 20 billion annually, the report said.

Based on observation of U.S. forces in the 1999 conflict in Kosovo, China has adopted an air-defense system called “Three Attacks and Three Defenses,” that calls for attacking stealth aircraft, cruise missiles and helicopters and defending against precision bombing and missile strikes, electronic warfare and enemy reconnaissance, the report said.

China’s military buildup has led the Pentagon to quietly build up its military forces in the Pacific in recent months. Attack submarines have been deployed in Guam, along with stockpiles of air-launched cruise missiles. Bombers also have been moved to the region to deal with either a conflict in Korea or possibly a war over Taiwan, defense officials said.

Giant panda
The giant panda is universally loved, and has a special significance for WWF as it has been the organization’s symbol since it was formed in 1961.

The unique physical features of the species include broad, flat molars and an enlarged wrist bone that functions as an opposable thumb – both of these adaptations are used for holding, crushing and eating bamboo. Giant pandas are classified as bears and have the digestive system of a carnivore, but they have adapted to a vegetarian diet and depend almost exclusively on bamboo as a food source.

Today, the giant panda’s future remains uncertain. This peaceful, bamboo-eating member of the bear family faces a number of threats. Its forest habitat, in the mountainous areas of southwest China, is fragmented and giant panda populations are small and isolated from each other. Meanwhile, poaching remains an ever-present threat.

Yangtze river dolphin
The Critically Endangered Yangtze river dolphin, or baiji, is one of seven freshwater dolphin species. It once lived in the lower and middle reaches of the Yangtze River, Fuchun River, and in Dongting and Poyang Lakes, China. Today it is the world’s most endangered cetacean. Fewer than 100 were thought to survive in the middle reaches of the Yangtze, however a 2006 survey failed to sight any individuals, raising fears that the species is one step closer to extinction.
