Physics Questions about Newton’s Laws Help?

Question by Wyatt~: Physics Questions about Newton’s Laws Help?
I just have around 7 basic questions about Newton’s Laws.
Please explain them, and Solve them, Because I am clueless.

1. Which law is in control of a spacecraft which cruises through space at a constant speed without using any fuel?

2. Which law governs when a tablecloth is pulled out from under a setting of china without damaging it?

3. Which law governs why a car is set in motion and not the asphalt highway on which it travels?

4. Which law allows a spaceship to accelerate by burning rocket fuel?

5. Which law relates acceleration to mass?

6. Which law governs when two skaters push apart in a rink?

7. Which law governs why a golf ball will go farther than a baseball if each are hit with the same amount of force?

1. Which law is in control of a spacecraft which cruises through space at a constant speed without using any fuel?

Newton’s First Law- object in motion (straight line) stays in motion

2. Which law governs when a tablecloth is pulled out from under a setting of china without damaging it?

Newton’s First Law- objects at rest tend to stay at rest

3. Which law governs why a car is set in motion and not the asphalt highway on which it travels?

Actually the problem is flawed. For the most part the car moves forward over the road, but to a very slight extent the highway moves backwards under the car (Newton’s Third Law)

4. Which law allows a spaceship to accelerate by burning rocket fuel?

Newton’s Second Law – Force = mass times acceleration

5. Which law relates acceleration to mass?

Newton’s Second Law – Force = mass times acceleration

6. Which law governs when two skaters push apart in a rink?

Newton’s Third Law – for every force or action there is a force or reaction in the opposite direction of equal magnitude– they should have worded this more carefully, and said something like “if one of the ice skaters pushes against the other, they both move opposite one to the other.
To some extent we should mention Newton’s Second Law because although both get the same force, the one with less mass will accelerate more than the other.

7. Which law governs why a golf ball will go farther than a baseball if each are hit with the same amount of force?

Newton’s Second Law – Force equals mass times acceleration

To some extent this exercise could be a problem. Although I feel I captured the intent, a student might leave this thinking that different “Newton Laws” apply to different problems.

All 3 laws are always in play — they don’t “pick and choose” or “take turns”.

Cheers!

Q&A: Girls, what do you think about me? Would you want to date/be friends with a guy like me?

Question by : Girls, what do you think about me? Would you want to date/be friends with a guy like me?
Ok, long list but here goes.

– I’m 15

-Wears glasses (not nerdy ones though)
– Black hair styled similar to Daniel Craig’s
– I have above average intelligence (but not gifted)
– Christian-Catholic
– I enjoy Marksmanship and have a slick trigger finger with 90% accuracy
– Enjoys the occassional singing. Sounds a bit like Bruno Mars. high voice sounds like Prince. Attempted Michael Jackson but failed XD
– TV Shows: CSI, Everybody Hates Chris, Flashpoint, Dog the Bounty Hunter, CTV News???
– Movies: James Bond 007, Rush Hour, Kick-A**, Casino Royale, Speed, Spider-Man, Dark Knight.
– Music: Michael Jackson, Bruno Mars, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Chris Cornell, Eminem
– Enjoys watching Chris Rock
– Conservative on Crime
– Wants to become a Police Officer when I’m older.
– Past crushes (for some reason) all looked similar to Chloe Moretz (yeah, had a crush on her too)
– Never had a girlfriend
– Never really had the guts to talk to a new girl
– Likes my drinks shaken, not stirred (except for soft drinks. I’d prefer neither method for that)
– Good at playing cards (Won $ 8500 in fake money in a Teen Casino on a cruise)
– A member of the Royal Canadian Air Cadets (which means I’m literally sworn in to serve Her Majesty the Queen)
– I know how to treat a girl well
– I travel a lot. I’ve been to Hong Kong, New York City, Bermuda, Macau, Vegas, China.

So, what do you think?

Please no answers like you’re a freak get out. Only honest answers please.

Also, I’m a total sh*t magnet when it comes to things sometimes. For example, I’ve been targeted by a small gang of white supremacists (whom I single-handedly took on, and won)

And my relationships don’t last too long. My closest ever to a girlfriend was dated for three hours (that was because it was on a vacation).

Heck to provide a pic I even went through the trouble of making an account on espin network for the sole purpose of providing a picture because twitter pics aren’t big enough.

Q&A: What do you think about Kevin Rudd’s outrage?

Question by Faruque Bin Laden: What do you think about Kevin Rudd’s outrage?
For details:
Dear Kevin
http://au.blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-GofJ21okda.DNLfej1ZAxnAS.aFD?p=47

Israeli Holocaust was planned and executed by the successive Israeli governments and they are undeniable Jewish Conspiracies. So are Holocaust continuum and The Iron Wall in front of you and me.

I find your stage managed selective moral outrage in China is hypocritical as well as seriously disturbing. You do not like Chinese violation of “human rights”! However, you are not outraged by the well planned ethnic cleansing and apartheid continuum of Israel as mentioned below!

Because, unlike holy Israel, the Chinese never used F18, apache helicopters, tanks, machine guns, cruise missiles against unarmed women and children in their own backyards and schoolyards.

What’s Obama going to do about this?

Question by Maryn Janine L: What’s Obama going to do about this?
Officials: Missiles show N. Korea skills improving
By KELLY OLSEN – 31 minutes ago

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — North Korea’s weekend missile launches show the communist country is improving its capability and accuracy and are a cause for concern, officials said Sunday.

North Korea launched seven ballistic missiles into waters off its east coast Saturday in a show of military firepower that defied U.N. resolutions and drew international condemnation and concern. It also fired four short-range missiles Thursday believed to be cruise missiles.

South Korea’s Yonhap news agency — citing a South Korean government source it did not identify — reported that five of the seven ballistic missiles landed in the same area, indicating their accuracy has improved.

Australian Foreign Minister Stephen Smith said North Korea’s capabilities were getting better.

“If you look at their most recent efforts, the most worrying thing is not their current capacity in terms of distance or scope but how they have improved,” he told the Nine Network on Sunday.

“We have seen improvements regrettably in their technology and their approach,” he said, emphasizing the latest missile tests were clearly a provocative act aimed at the U.S.

Saturday’s launches on U.S. Independence Day appeared to be a slap at Washington as it moves to enforce U.N. as well as its own sanctions against the isolated regime for its May 25 nuclear test.

An official, speaking on condition of anonymity citing department policy, said the Defense Ministry was investigating the launches and it would take about a week to complete an analysis.

He also said no signs of additional missile launches had been detected, but more were possible given North Korea warned ships to stay away from the area through July 10.

North Korea’s state news agency did not mention the launches. In Washington, the White House had no immediate comment.

South Korea said Saturday that the missiles likely flew more than 250 miles (400 kilometers), apparently landing in waters between the Korean peninsula and Japan.

South Korea and Japan both condemned the launches, with Tokyo calling them a “serious act of provocation.” Britain and France issued similar statements.

Russia and China, both allies of North Korea, expressed concern over an “escalation of tension in the region,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said Saturday in a statement after a meeting in Moscow.

Separately, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said in a statement that Beijing “hopes all parties will keep calm and restrained and jointly safeguard the overall peace and stability in this region.”

The North has engaged in a series of acts this year widely seen as provocative. It fired a long-range rocket it said was a satellite in early April, and in late May it carried out its second underground nuclear test following the first in late 2006.

The country has also stoked tensions with rival South Korea and last month threatened “thousand-fold” military retaliation against the U.S. and its allies if provoked.

Yonhap also reported that the North is believed to have spent between $ 34 million and $ 46 million in test-firing the seven missiles Saturday. It cited no source.

South Korea’s Defense Ministry said it cannot confirm the report.

Associated Press writers Hyung-jin Kim, Kwang-tae Kim and Jae-soon Chang in Seoul, Gillian Wong in Beijing, Tomoko A. Hosaka in Tokyo, Jill Lawless in London, Elaine Ganley in Paris, Mansur Mirovalev in Moscow and Lara Jakes in Washington contributed to this report.

Question by : can you give me your opinion about this?
From sea otters to blue whales, marine mammals are under stress from climate change, ocean acidification, hunting and other threats. Researchers have identified 20 important sites around the world where they say conservation efforts should concentrate.

Marine mammals are widely distributed in the oceans and some freshwater locations, but 11 of the conservation sites are home to creatures found nowhere else, according to the study led by Sandra Pompa of the National Autonomous University of Mexico.

Researchers dubbed those sites “irreplaceable” and added that the nine others selected include representatives of 84 percent of all marine mammals.

Currently the most endangered marine mammal is the vaquita, a porpoise that lives in the northern section of the Gulf of California, Pompa said.

The 11 sites deemed irreplaceable were the Hawaiian Islands, Galapagos Islands, Amazon River, San Felix and Juan Fernandez Islands off the coast of Chile, Mediterranean Sea, Caspian Sea, Lake Baikal in Russia, Yangtze River, Indus River, Ganges River and the Kerguelen Islands in the southern Indian Ocean.

In addition, the nine sites picked for their species richness were along the coasts of Baja California, much of the eastern coast of the Americas (the Atlantic coast of the U.S. and including coastal areas of Cuba, Hispaniola, Colombia and Venezuela), Peru, Argentina, Northwestern Africa, South Africa, Japan, Australia and New Zealand.

The findings in the study, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, will be valuable as a conservation tool for organizations and governments that want to focus on endangered species, Pompa said.

At least three species – the Caribbean monk seal, Atlantic gray whale and Steller’s sea cow – became extinct because of hunting for their fur, blubber and meat during the 19th and 20th centuries, the researchers noted. The most recent extinction, declared in 2008, was the baiji, a type of porpoise, from the Yangtze River in China.

Will the US launch a premptive strike on North Korea? What do you think about this article I found?

Question by Chris G: Will the US launch a premptive strike on North Korea? What do you think about this article I found?
* With American forces bogged down in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq, will Obama move towards a preemptive first strike on North Korea? This could mean the employment of tactical nuclear war heads to destroy military objectives. This piece by Turner Radio Network is probably highly speculative. But who knows?

North Korea yesterday withdrew from the Armistice that halted the Korean War. Today, official Washington is abuzz with not so secret “Top Secret” plans for the United States to make a limited nuclear first strike to wipe out the North Korean threat in one fell swoop.

Russia has been alerted to “make plans” for radiation fallout in its eastern border area. In consultations with China, the U.S. Ambassador to Beijing was said to be stunned when he was told by the Chinese government “Kim Jung Il is out of control and dangerous. He has become a serious liability for China. Do what must be done, but please do it in a manner that minimizes risk to China.”

China was then briefed about US plans and asked to prepare its southern population areas for radiation fallout. It is expected that prevailing weather patterns will disperse fallout over the sea, causing it to thin out dramatically before moving over land.

Worst development since World War 2
Our source in the State Department explained today why this situation got so bad, so fast. “The Korean War legally never ended.” he said. “There is no peace treaty, there is only an Armistice, a formal cease-fire. When North Korea officially withdrew from the Armistice yesterday, it automatically brought us back into a hot war. “he continued.

Speaking on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to speak to the media, the high ranking state department source told Turner Radio Network (TRN):

“Of all the scenarios involving North Korea, withdrawing from the Armistice was the one thing we thought they never would do. Since the War, everyone has known that withdrawing from the Armistice means the cease-fire is over. Today, that cease fire is over; we are back at war with North Korea and this time, the outcome will not be negotiated. Withdrawing from the Armistice was the last mistake North Korea will ever make. Their leadership must surrender now or they are nothing more than dead men walking. It’s over for them” he finished.

Pentagon: Nuclear first strike “Likely”
Early in the evening on Tuesday, President Barack Obama gave permission for the US Military to airlift “Patriot Missile Air Defense” systems to South Korea and additional units to bolster 16 systems already in Japan. Those systems were airborne hours later and arrived in South Korea and Japan today.

The model of Patriot Missile systems sent is “PAC-3″ and they were accompanied by M-901 control stations and AN/MPQ-53 phased array radar. Sources with acute knowledge of the plans for North Korea have confirmed to TRN that a US nuclear first strike is going to be launched.

The first strike will be carried out through submarine-launched, BGM-109 Tomahawk cruise missiles, model TLAM/A whose explosive payload can be “dialed” to be anywhere from 100 kilotons to one point five megatons nuclear yield per missile.

There will be no warning. North Korea will not be able to track the incoming cruise missiles via radar. The only way they will know the attack is taking place is when they see a blinding white flash as the temperature rises to ten thousand degrees and the wind gusts to 650 miles per hour.

North Korean troops along the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) will be hit first to prevent them from invading south Korea. Multiple cruise missiles using Time of Arrival (TOA) control will detonate simultaneously along the DMZ, wiping out over one million North Korean troops in seconds.

Minutes later, after the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) confirms that the North Korean leadership has been told by their own command structure that their troops at the DMZ have all been killed, Kim Jung Il will be contacted and asked if he is willing to surrender. It is expected he will not.

At that point, a B-2 Stealth Bomber will be sent in to deliver the final blow. Pyongyang will be hit with a surface detonation of a massive nuclear bomb, wiping out the entire city and the entire government of North Korea.

As soon as that surface detonation takes place, several hundred additional cruise missiles carrying conventional payloads and launched from land, air and sea sites, will hit every North Korean military facility in the entire country, instantly crippling their entire command and control system. Carrier based Aircraft will then fly in to clean up whatever resistance remains.

It is expected the war will be over within one or two days. Korea will be reunited. It’s Capitol will be Seou

I have a question about visa’s and vaccinations?

Question by Chelsea: I have a question about visa’s and vaccinations?
In September, I’m going on a 22 day cruise to Alaska, Russia, Japan, South Korea, and China.

I live in California, where do I go to get Visa’s for these countries? Can I do it online? And where can I find more information?

Also, what/is there any vaccinations I will need for Russia, Japan, South Korea, and China? Where can I find information on this?
Also, I can’t find my passport at the moment, if I have to order a new one, how much is it and how long does it take?

Best answer:

Answer by Jennifer B
1 – the passport. You need to do this first so you can get the visa for each country needed stamped into the passport. Go to http://travel.state.gov/passport/lost/lost_849.html . You’ll need to fill out a form to report the stolen passport, and also fill out forms and apply in person for a new passport.

It could take 6-8 weeks to get the new passort, and will cost $ 100 (not including cost of pictures and the local passport processing fees if any).

#2. Visa – You should not need a visa for Japan or South Korea. You do need a visa for Russia and China. Go to the website for the consulates of Russia and China in the United States and they will tell you what you need to do to get the visa. Usually it involves an application and fees to be paid. If you are close enough to the consulate you can usually do this in person. And if you don’t live close enough, you’ll send them the paperwork, fees and your passport by courier.

#3 Immunization – double check this list from the Centers from Disease Control regarding immunizations to where you will be visiting/what you will be doing in each country. Your doctor may be able to give you these immunizations. If he/she cannot, then look for a “travel medicine clinic”
