Q&A: When is the best time to get citizenship?

Question by hazeltine4: When is the best time to get citizenship?
My fiance is a Chinese citizen, but has had her permanent Green Card (permanent resident) in the U.S for nearly 15 years. We are planning our wedding and honeymoon. She currently only keeps her Chinese citizenship to make it much easier to visit her parents in China, without needing a visa every year.

For our honeymoon, we are planning a Mediterranean Cruise, where she would need multiple visas for the countries we wil visit — at least four visas.

When should she get her US citizenship — before, or after the wedding and honeymoon? As Chinese women do not change their names after marriage, it would not affect her name – other than maybe to go to her “American” first name.

And no — she does NOT need to get married to an American to stay in the U.S.! She has a great job and career with a U.S. corporation.

Lastly — what is the best way to get all the visas needed for the honeymoon??? It seems like most require Embassy visits in Chicago now.

Thanks!!!
Also, we are planning a September of October wedding this year, if that makes a difference.
Also, China does NOT allow dual citizenship. After the citizenship in US, she will lose Chinese citizenship, but she is OK with that.

I don’t see that it makes much difference. But the wait from application to citizenship could be 18 months – so that will impact your planning. Once she’s filed her application, it’s much harder to travel outside the US, until the citizenship is granted.

Q&A: Is it time to strike Iran?

Question by Hazbro: Is it time to strike Iran?
How do you feel about pre-emptive strikes? The mullahs in charge of Iran are intent on making their nation a nuclear power in the region. They have just announced deployment of new highly accurate cruise missiles. That they are developing atomic weapons is beyond doubt. Do we sit on our hands as they develop nuclear-tipped cruise missiles? Or do we put an end to the regime while we have still have troops sitting on their borders in Iraq and Afghanistan? Taking Saddam Hussein’s regime down was justified on the basis of global security. Could invading Iran be likewise justified? Do you believe meaningful economic sanctions can be effective when both Russian and China don’t participate? Or would you never be in agreement with pre-emptive action?
FYI, for the smartasses. I’m an Army veteran.
Yes there are harmless well-meaning people in Iran. There were harmless well-meaning people in Nazi Germany, Imperial Japan, Hussein’s Iraq, as there are in Afghanistan. This will always be true of any nation whose leadership and military are a threat. We have little evidence that these well-meaning people are now or will be in a position to topple the Islamofacists that rule the country and populate the military. The evidence we have is that the regime can and will brutally and successfully oppress the opposition while continuing to impoverish the country with aggressive weapons development and deployment. Had we waited for the decent folk among the German people to overthrow the Third Reich we would all be living in the Third Reich and a number of ethnic groups would either be extinct or be slave races for the Germans. Unfortunately tyrants are not turned aside by prayer or by singing Kum Bah Yah around the campfire while we toast marshmallows.
I think most of you were born before Iraq launched an invasion of Kuwait for the purpose of acquiring their oil fields? Saddam Hussein didn’t march into Kuwait alone. This notion that the people are always mere bystanders to a tyrant’s actions is false. Obviously, given the size of the active duty Sepah and Basij military units, a substantial segment of the Iranian population supports the Iranian regime. Iran claims nearly 1 million active duty and over 11 million paramilitary reserves, making it, on paper at least, the largest military force on earth, and one that pervades the society on all levels. It seems like wishful thinking to expect the opposition to toppel this regime.
I attended a declassified briefing that among other topics covered the hardening and dispersal of Iraq’s verified and suspected nuclear facilities. The analysts reported some of the facilities are buried under so many meters of rock and reinforced concrete that we cannot be confident our most powerful non-nuclear bunker busters would work. If a conventional attack failed, then we would have solidified internal support for the regime’s nuclear program without stopping it. And using nukes? Unless we elect Dick Cheney the next president, no U.S. president now or on the horizon will sign off on that. So I think we need to prepare ourselves to face a nuclear-armed Iran that will then become far more belligerent and dangerous than even the pessimists imagine.

Question by : any ideas of a relaxing enjoyable time ? preferably a beach..?
i want to go somewhere with a beach, not somewhere in or really close to the US but around the other half of the world.
Ive been to the states, china, korea, thailand, philippines and i really do like those places but this time i want to go somewhere really peaceful but fun, like a beach with shopping centers or a boardwalk(if they have those there), and lots of fun entertainment. Also like a really beautiful scenery and maybe scuba diving. horseback riding sounds fun, and Id rather not hike. I wanted a cruise, but i don’t think a cruise,,my mind is open and id LOVE to hear of places that are affordable and worth the visit ASAP ! thank you 🙂
oh and id like to go for spring break. it’ll probably be just me. id like to meet new people, maybe experience another culture?not really sure, just some ideas.. but definately a beach, because of a move to another country,,i went through rough times, and i miss the beach and need some time to have fun and let the stress out. so im wondering whether there is a place that’s both really peaceful and yet exciting. and so the states is not an option. i hope this helps more

Hands down, Seychelles!! Stay at a guest house, and not hotels…you can get nice bungalows right at the beach. The islands are famous for huge granite rocks laying around, and it offers great scuba diving.

Q&A: around what time period were the tigres and euphrates rivers used? also indus and ganges? huang he &yangtze ?

Question by Congi: around what time period were the tigres and euphrates rivers used? also indus and ganges? huang he &yangtze ?

Best answer:

Answer by loveanonymoty
I am familiar with the tigres and euphrates river of mesopotamia. During the neolithic period, men discovered how to domesticate animals and cultivate food and in turn, civilization occurred. Permanent constructions of settlements usually occur near rivers. And also during this period the discovery of using copper alloy in conjuction with tin created a stronger metal, bronze. So I would confidently say during the late neolithic period.

Q&A: Which to skip on china trip cuz of time. Yangtze river cruise(3dys), Hong Kong(out of way) Guilin(Li river) ?

Question by Gavin Smith: Which to skip on china trip cuz of time. Yangtze river cruise(3dys), Hong Kong(out of way) Guilin(Li river) ?
We’re already going to Beijing, Shanghai, Xi’an. Can only go to 2 of the 3(Guiling/yangshuo, hong kong, yangtze cruise from yaching to chongqing) Guilin seems to be a top tourist attraction with the Li river cruise(4 hours) and Yangshuo not too far away that has many natural attractions(rice paddy fields, mountains), hong kong i left out at first but friends wanna go. Yangtze river cruise seems least exciting but 3rd longest river in the world and 3 gorges dam is one of engineering wonders.

Yangtze river, i would miss out on. The amount of scum & slim that has piled up behind the 3 gorges dam over the years is ridiculous, it’s really affected the nature and beauty. The Guilin is a proper wonder, fabulous.
