Is the Baiji White Whale officially extinct?

Question by PeaceeNickk(:: Is the Baiji White Whale officially extinct?
I hope it isn’t. It becamed extinct in 2006 and then they found one in the Yangtze River in 2007. So did they recover the species or is it extinct?

After reading the article below they are functionally extinct which is a different term from calling it ‘officially extinct’ (the term is clickable within the article if you wish to know the difference). The article only says that a ‘possible baiji’ was filmed in 2007, I can infer from that that no species recovery was involved, it was just a possible sighting of a single individual.

Well, It’d be cool if they could save that fish but its population is probably too low to save the species. Let’s hope for the best.
