is the expected completion date? Is it now partially operational…It was quite an impressive structure when I saw it ,albeit incomplete…I know there were some concerns of the weight of the water held back in such a seismologically active area….is all of this now resolved?
Has the water level in the 3 gorges risen by how much? any info ..thanx

The Three Gorges Dam is ready to hold water on June 1 as scheduled. The water is supposed to reach 135 meters in 15 days. During this period, the water rising will exert some influence on the navigation-
This is from a website detailing the project:
I will say that this website is a bit of cheerleading- the seismic worries are not resolved, and cannot really be any more than those same worries in the San Andreas Fault.

Isn’t this the river that the Chinese have built a massive hydro-electric dam project on ?
if it is there may be a serious oxygen depletion problem in the water as it is being held back.

How to cross Yangtze river, China near Nantong on a bicycle?

Question by Matt: How to cross Yangtze river, China near Nantong on a bicycle?
I wish to ride the G204 road from Qingdao to Shanghai.

The road/map/route appears easy until I reach Nantong. Many large bridges in China do not allow bicycle/pedestrian traffic. How do I cross the Yangtze in Nantong by biycle? Is there a ferry or bridge for bicycles and pedestrians?

Thanks,

Matt
Craftyla — thank you for that information. At first inspection, my map shows that bridge to be a highway (no bikes allowed). But upon looking closer and viewing the link you posted, I can see that you’re correct. Thanks again. I will weigh-up whether that (or the ferry) is the best option for me as the bridge is a diversion from the road I planned to take.

Which would be the better attraction in China..Guilin or Yangtze River?

Question by julesl68: Which would be the better attraction in China..Guilin or Yangtze River?

Best answer:

Answer by hazeltine4
Guilin by far.

The Yangtze river is just a fanouus big river, and is highly polluted. It is way overused for shipping goods through China. Guilin is beautiful, and not polluted.

Let me get this straight. You don’t want to do the research for something so you want us to work hard for nothing? Here’s a hint for the lazy; if you do manage to find your way to wikipedia, at the bottom of the page there are external site links. Start there and do your own work.

I don’t have the energy to climb on my soap box, but I completely 100% agree with you. How dare we be so arrogant and selfish. It enrages me sometimes.

To put it in the simplest terms, it is the human race that deserves be extinct. Our extinction is the only thing that can save our poor sick planet. That may be a disturbing thought to some people but it is true.
